Budget Control and Quartermaster TraQ

One agency is using its Quartermaster TraQ to help plan future budget costs. Next to personnel, the largest investment of a law enforcement agency is the equipment it buys. As a largely future replacement schedules of vehicles, weapons, computers, and other equipment controllable expenditure, that agency uses QueTel’s material management software to project, in addition to tracking usage of supplies and uniforms.

Quartermaster TraQ makes it easy to record the useful life of equipment. The apparent benefit to recording when equipment will reach the end of its useful life, is to alert managers when the time comes to replace vests, less than lethal weapons, pepper spray, etc. Management in one agency has taken the next step of calculating the future budget impacts of replacement cycles. It has developed a report such as that below that can show for each year, how many of each type of equipment need to be replaced for each budget year.
